A life threaded with purpose
Sometimes the task of cleaning out the junk drawers in our life (actual and metaphorical) lead us to our purpose.
Today, I was sorting papers. This seems like an endless project of moving things from one place in our house to another. You know what I'm talking about. I bet you do it, too. Usually it's filing boring stuff. Every now and then, I come across something interesting, even significant. But significant in a life-changing and inspiring kind of way. Today I found something significant.
I wrote something about six years ago; it's about my passion, my purpose, and what needs to be done in my life to honour both. I could have written it this morning, that's how relevant the dream in my heart is and has always been. And I didn't recognize it. My dream. I didn't recognize my dream. That sounds absurd to me. Maybe that's a sign of how out of touch I have been, how misaligned with my true self my actual, daily life has been.
What is exciting and interesting and breathtaking about reading what I wrote all those years ago is simply the consistency of what I really want from my life. So many people I have talked to lately want to know what their true purpose in life is. Several months ago, I was asking a dear friend the same thing during an Akashic Records session that would end up changing everything for me.
The reality, I discovered then, today, and several times in between, is that our purpose in life is in owning who we truly are. And if we look closely at our life--the years, days, and moments--we will see clues everywhere. Common threads that keep showing up that spark something in us...that's where the clue to your life purpose is.
The practical reason I wrote what I did six years ago is because I was part of a community created with the purpose of supporting people to own our passions. It was and still is a community where people can ask others for ideas, inspiration, or even pep talks. At the beginning of the calendar year, we were encouraged to choose three words that we would keep as representative motivators throughout the year: put them on our mirror or steering wheel to keep us present to what we want in life, that kind of thing.
create. bridge. humility.
My three words that year were create, bridge, and humility. I guess I should have put them on the rear-view mirror instead of in the glove box. I didn't create much. I didn't take the actions to bridge my then-current situation and my goals. And I didn't really have a good sense of what humility even was, though it sounded valiant and pleasing at the time. What was missing for me was the conviction to follow through--my desire was not strong enough--and by Einstein's assessment, I was completely insane.
Eventually, life without living my dream, my passion, without pursuing my purpose became almost unbearable. I felt like I was wasting my talents. Thankfully, I broke that pattern. And to say I broke it really means that with the support and help of many, many mentors and other incredible contributors to my life, I broke those patterns.
Do you practice this same exercise? Do you pick three words to empower your year and infuse it with an energy of personal growth or transformation?
Is it on your fridge to see when you reach for the milk to put in your morning coffee?
Is it on your mirror to look at when you are brushing your teeth each day?
Or maybe it's on your ceiling above your bed to take in right before your close your eyes to influence your powerful dream state.
Maybe, like me six years ago, you pick three words and don't follow through on them, leaving your life purpose and passion to rest for another year until you awaken a bit more. Maybe you're not ready yet? Or maybe you are so darn ready that you are going to sit down today and write your three words and a list of action items to go with them and get to work creating new habits that will result in the manifestation of your dream.
Whatever it is, I hope you will share them. With me or someone else. Feel free to comment below or connect with me through the contact page on this site.
This year, I have chosen just one word, and that word is LOVE. Today, and in every moment, I am looking for the love in others and looking to love whatever presents itself to me. For me, I know I can't find my North Star without it.
Thank you so much for joining me here. I truly hope to get to know more about you and possibly plant a few seeds that could change the way you see your life like so many incredible people and sources have done for me.
With so much love,
Leanne.
